            "SPLAT" (Revelation) previewed by D.Tonks

I have been lucky enought to be given a preview version of
"SPLAT" for the Sam, which was always a favourite game of mine
on the Spectrum, and is now being converted to the Sam by Colin
Jordan of Samco.
I can only comment on the copy that I have, but I must say that
first impressions are very good.
Mode 4 graphics are being used, and although the graphics are
the same as the Spectrum version, they have a lot more colour,
(and no colour clash!!!) than the Spectrum original.
The gameplay has been faithfully reproduced and loses nothing in
it's transition to the new machine. In other words, it's still
as frustrating as ever.
Movement of the screen is quick and flicker free, and the
controls respond rapidly to your commands, which, in a game such
as this, is very important.

A quick rundown of the game for those of you who have never seen
it, is that you control a spidery type character, which you can
move about the playing area. The problem is that the playing
area is scrolling about, taking you with it. If you should touch
the surrounding walls, or any of the many killer objects, then
you lose a life. Whilst on your travels, you must collect
objects. When enough have been collected, the level is
finished.
Colin assures me that the finished game will have extra
scenarios in it, which the Spectrum version didn't, this along
with the extra graphics and sound, will make a superb addition
to your games collection.
The price will be £9.99 and I am told that release is very
close.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.....

VIKING (from "Impatience" by FRED) reviewed by J.Jennings

Viking is a two player game which entails one player who has a
King and is surrounded by his men in formation in the middle of
the board.
The other side's men are positioned in the four corners guarding
the Kings objective a square in the corner which he has to get
to.

The King's side has to get the King to the one of the four
corners.
The opposition has to stop the King.

To take a piece, two men have to be positioned either side of
the piece to be taken.
The King cannot be taken but the end of the game comes when the
King is immobilised or when the King reaches one of the corner
squares.

I found the game well presented and control good but not my cup
of tea I would have also liked an option to play the computer as
finding an opponent is difficult

Overall a good game well presented and thought out.

THE BRISTOL ALL FORMATS SHOW 6th October 1991

Well, what can I say about such a disastrous show. The
attendance was abysmal, the venue was not ideal, and there was a
general atmosphere of apathy.

I personally think that the organisers must try and bring down
the admission price from the current £4.00 per person. Also I
think that these shows are coming too close together, and the
public is getting fed up with them.

Anyway, I got to see a preview of "SOUND MACHINE", and I hope to
bring you a report next issue. I also got a preview copy of
"SPLAT", and with a bit of luck, there should be a write up of
it in this issue.
Team Sam was represented by ourselves, Fred Magazine, Format,
PBT Electronics and Samco, and as you have
probably gathered, none of us had a very good day.
This brings me to the next piece of news, which is that Samco
are no longer going to have a stand at the All Formats Shows. I
have mixed feeling about this, but Samco has said that any of
team Sam can sell the machines on their behalf.
                          *************

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the mag, to
congratulate Steve Monk on his succesful "SAM NIGHT", which he
held the other week. Through him many more people got a chance
to see the Sam first hand.
Also to be congratulated is Colin Mckenzie who has got a
catalogue company to include the Sam in their next promotional
video.
