                           EXPEND 92

                    OVERVIEW & INSTRUCTIONS

----------------------------------------------------------------

GENERAL

Firstly, this program originally appeared on the Spectrum and
was first published in Outlet. I cannot remember who wrote it
but I found it so useful that I have re-written it and altered
it to SAM format. MasterBasic is required to run it as the
search facilities in MasterBasic are second to none for this
type of program.

The program itself is something of a balance sheet wherein you
enter your monthly outgoings and incomes. A full printout of
both expenditure and incomes are available, as is a
surplus/deficit table. The program also draws graphs and these
too are printable.
It is a good idea before entering any data to print out a full
account and an income account. You can then see the headings as
they are currently set, and amend them to your requrements
before entering your own data. A full account will fit nicely
onto an A4 sheet.

The program has been written to send line feeds and so your
printer should be set not to send automatic line feeds, it
should work on an Epson standard printer.

So how do you use it ?

The main menu has 7 options as follows:-

Option 1: Input Data

As it implies, this is the input mode. If you have printed out
the full account as mentioned earlier, you will see a list of
headings, you are prompted to enter a fiqure for each in WHOLE
NUMBERS ONLY i.e to the nearest pound. Pressing Enter at any
heading will give a zero and move you onto the next . After the
expenditure section has been entered, the program goes straight
to the Income section, again it will help if you have a printout
to refer to before entering data.

Option 2: View any Month
This option will print on screen your expenditure and income,
not as impressivly as on paper, but it's O.K.

Option 3: View Graph

On this option you are taken to a sub menu giving you the choice
of searching for a payment or an income, and drawing a graph of
it. Option 3 at this menu will give you a complete income /
expenditure graph for the whole year.

Option 4: Print Options

Again here you are given a sub menu. Full account will print all
expenditure for a full year onto an A4 sheet; Income account
will print out your incomes for a full year; Payment/Income will
print out the total expenditure and income for each month and
the surplus or deficit for each month and for the year.

Option 5: Save Saves the whole program and it's data.

Option 6: Amend Option

Another sub menu here !
Here's your chance to alter those mistakes that sneak in. You
can alter any expenditure or income entry, or you can alter any
of the headings. I would not recomend altering the headings
named Total. These are, as they say, Totals and they Total up
the previous entries, this allows for some form of sectioning.
As you will see, the way it's set up at present, I have car
related things in one section, and taxes and insurances in
another.

Option 7: Quit

The year is set for 1992 and will automatically change in
January of each year. If you find yourself in basic, type MENU
or goto50 to get the program up again. If you type RUN you will
wipe out all data.
----------------------------------------------------------------

         INSTRUCTIONS FOR GRAPHICAL CALCULATOR SIMULATOR
                     by Matthew Collinge

This program was made to help with A-Level maths, so some of
you will find it quite useful if you don't have the money to get
a graphical calculator.
Example... Load in the program and you will be asked to
use either the current or a new formula, press 'N'. Enter this
formula:
                             "SIN x"

This very simple example formula will produce a sine wave on
the screen - though it is not very good. To make it better press
E to change the line intensity, change it to 0.1, then press D
to change the Y-scale, change it to 30. Now press RETURN to
re-draw the graph.
If you want to see a cosine wave on the same axes then press
O and type:
                             "COS x"

To narrow the x range just use Q and A and then RETURN to
re-draw the graph. N will let you use a new formula.
1 and 2 will make you toggle between points and lines - at
the beginning you used points, press 2 (the * will move) and
then RETURN to re-draw, you will find the graph drawn is better
or much worse depending on the intensity setting.

        ------------------------------------------------

GAMES MASTER DEMO by Andy Wright

This is a superb piece of software that is only limited by your
imagination.
A letter from Andy, telling you all about it is in the LETTERS
section of this issue.

        ------------------------------------------------

MAGIC by D.A.Lorner

A nice little program showing the number crunching power of the
Sam, in a very unusual form.
You will think that the Sam is telepathic...

        -------------------------------------------------

POKES & TIPS by Bob Evans

Another batch of tips, cheats and maps from Bob. You may be
interested to know that most of the maps are worked out by Bob
himself, by playing and mapping the games, a daunting task.

        -------------------------------------------------

GALLERY Anon

A selection of MODE 4 pictures for you to hack about.

        -------------------------------------------------

DISC FILER by Robin Clarke

An unusal filing system for your Sam, but one which I find very
quick and easy, as you don't have to type in the files, they are
read off the disc for you.
The program needs Masterdos to run, but features all the normal
search, insert, add a file options that you need to keep a track
of what's on which disc.
Full instructions are included in the program..

           -------------------------------------------

CHANGER by Robin Clarke

A simple routine that allows you to change the filenames on your
disc to either upper or lower case.

           -------------------------------------------

Mrs BACH by L.J.Hale

A selection of music done using the Sound Machine. It features
the work of Bach's wife, and a small potted history of the lady
is included.

RANDOMS by D.A Lorner

A graphical representation of how the Sam can choose numbers
randomly from a list of numbers. There are 3 different types of
list, so one of them may suit your needs.

             ---------------------------------------

SET-KEYS by R.S.Rathbone

A DEF PROC that sets the cursor keys to act as the keys 6,7,8
and 9, which of course are the joystick keys. There is also a
DEF PROC to re-set them back to cursors.
Very useful if the program you are using uses cursors, and you
prefer joysick.
         ----------------------------------------------

WRITER

Our own SUNZ club shareware text editor, written initially by
Ryan Melstrom and improved by myself.
It allows other character sets to be loaded plus special
characters sets, ie fouriers symbols, for example load "ssldemo"
(a university assignment).
Also will print anything typed, since it uses the dump command.

Instructions in program - user friendly and entirely written in

TANDY DUMP by D.Pritchard, D.Tonks and G.Bobker

This was originally started as a way for Dave Pritchard to get a
screen dump out of his Tandy printer. The program itself has the
main part in BASIC so that you can customise it to your own
printer if you have a non-standard one like the Tandy.

The program works by printing only the palettes that you specify
and to help you decide which palettes are which colour, you can
run a pixel around the screen and the number at the top left
tells you the palette No.

When you know what you want and what you don't, you can set the
colours for printing before the program gives you a final
printout.

This program is very simplistic, and will not give shaded dumps,
but both Dave and Geoff are quite pleased with it as it is the
only way they have found of dumping a screen to their
non-standard Tandy printers.
